Where has this time gone? I haven't posted since September. All the Holiday's flew by in a flash,the winter here has been warmer than normal and outside project's started that are not completed. Since Christmas tho I do have a reason (or excuse if you may). I had cervical spine surgery right after the Holiday's and due to several complication's have not been up to par. I am now going to therapy 3 time's a week and preparing for lower back surgery within a few week's and I'm hoping this one will go alot smoother than the first. It is a slow go but I'm hoping and praying after all this is over that maybe,just maybe I can feel GOOD again. I have so many thing's I would like (and need) to do and being a couch potato is not one of them. Keep me in your prayer's. I think of each and everyone of you often. Hopefully,I will be posting soon.~Dinah~My Aimless Infatuationhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07247232637557244904noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8228695683081125162.post-21284101480888998402011-09-22T17:04:00.002-05:002011-09-22T17:08:42.656-05:00Is it Me or Blogger?Everytime I try to leave a comment on a blog post,it is telling me that I do not have permission to view this page. Like most of you Summer has kept me busy,way too busy. I feel like a hamster on a wheel going nowhere. I really don't remember there being so many chores when I was younger or maybe it just takes more out of me since I have gotten older. Anyway,I'm ready for things to slow down so I can get back to the things I love,like blogging. I hope you all are well and have enjoyed this Labor Day weekend. I am so far behind on my blog reading that I may never catch up but you all have been in my thoughts often. The storms came and went yesterday and left behind a sunny but cool day today so I'm just kind of soaking it up,being lazy and recharging for the week ahead. Here's a couple of pix I took this
morning......see,I'm not the only one kicking back today.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimso_Hn28PbLz0OpYyQ2iKzsoC_yXi1xGsewBpAENST81BZswqbm0DWmLIjy6mF-QR-ruiJ3d2USRTtfssArusRqzfI_Hc5zg7VGVjIJn4Uix9J2ZeyPPR5gJsbOVZx6cXO1B2rx35HvJf/s400/IMG_0764.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5596327655092912226" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEix2APJwUHkTrloSJXegBVY1vPImDu9sBGK-3LesMP4PH7RS9E9zfJs7crUhdUAX0EI3GuwJyEwk_ysdnS_MAJDmhA2YipiK6E47GkMFHklOMYisB_ksTh6mnvL9t0FUhW5AwO-5wVcvm-m/s400/IMG_0765.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5596328453448000850" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghAYM4XKNlkWZnJ9WKQ1_SUb9hKupCnIxwtGKG9G0clvdccFvB29WLjmEX0AL2XDIw99R2YMelc4W3-TZYVH0sHy8Pvs8PNHeyfIUG3ZC3MfchFOnPFczr1cJdxIB-86mVneJiSfH4U4nK/s400/IMG_0766.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5596329056056845858" />

But ya know,all this laying around got me to thinking back on Saturday Night's when I was younger. It really lifts my spirits to know someone is thinking of me,Thank ya'll from the bottom of my heart.....Now,on to the boring stuff(I'll try to make a long story short). The medicine the Doctor gave me for my stomach and esphogus has really helped,He said they were one solid sore that seems to be from stress,so hopefully that problem will soon be solved. My main worry is the blockage in my right carotid artery. I had surgery on my left one several years ago,they waited until it was 97% blocked and mini-strokes hitting at least once a week. My right one is now at 60%(insurance will not pay for surgery until the blockage reaches at least 70%). So of course they want to treat it,for the time being with meds. The problem is if I take the plavix I end up with blood blisters all over me and the cholesterol medicine puts me in severe muscle pain. It's a no win situation. My fear of having a major stroke doesn't help,my parents both had strokes. My Mother only lived 5 days after having one but my Father lived 10 years as helpless as a baby. I took care of him at home for those 10 years and know the hell he went though. I'm trying to live each day and staying busy to not think about what the future holds for me,some days are harder than others. So,I'm planning a new project. I think it's time to paint the house again.......just as soon as I can decide on colors.♥~Dinah~♥My Aimless Infatuationhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07247232637557244904noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8228695683081125162.post-50442093093421338602011-03-24T13:46:00.004-05:002011-03-24T14:49:37.566-05:00My Thursday!Friday I go back to the Doctor for more test,which will take all day since I have to travel so far. Their giving rain for Saturday and Sunday so I decided to get all my housework done Wednesday night and(early)Thursday morning to free up the rest of the day because I really needed to get the yard mowed. This will be the first time this year,so of course limbs had to be pick up and a few things moved in order to mow. Housework done(check)yard cleaned up(check)dogs fed(check)went and bought gas for lawnmower(check). Woo Hoo,everythings moving right along smoothly. Went out to the shop and started the lawnmower and backed it out,Now,I'm ready to get this over with so I can shower and rest a little while..........*%&#@.....(pause).........&%$@#...(pause)........&!*$%#!!!!!! That was me trying to engage the blade!!! Apparently I am no longer strong enough to do that! You could say I'm P.Oed at myself right now......I guess I'm over the hill,evidently I went around the bottom because for the life of me I don't remember being at the top. At least this little guy saw the humor in it!!!~Dinah~
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 127px; height: 154px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKLJrBN-xJmR15kUSR1RDJ8xrs_VfCJcT9FBm4_9ktVVjwCmO-MPnGBh_X0UJk-wMCl0be1g_vR7JImkjRehrRnSVmYUmnEmHqtkTfY4zKyFacSHZgz1XdJN_DTkS6Kp_oGojTKAcdhJMt/s320/3295_view.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5587734433728444706" />My Aimless Infatuationhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07247232637557244904noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8228695683081125162.post-49891513347574362412011-03-20T07:41:00.004-05:002011-03-20T08:04:38.113-05:00An Amazing Sunset!I don't know where my thinkin' cap is,here lately,but I sure need to find it and put it back on. Last night was suppose to be some kind of "super moon" but I never saw it but I did see the biggest and most amazing sunset that I have ever seen. It was setting so fast and I was trying to get a picture,I was so excited I couldn't hold my camera still. I'm sure I will never see a bigger sunset in my liftime, I am so mad at myself. WHY,I did not switch to video is beyond me!!! Did anyone else see it? Here are the only pictures I got,just had to share.~Dinah~

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiXi3GxIGCPCFXbHZ4cYiIlAOqUZazJhDKHY2EF6BqtIDxi5rlE4uqLrhPtHFGwB5z7waWYHGlFagf4cIEjlRH0DiiC88TlM32cbaSh_n9xSlPAPOKHQLzkz1VkzEq5Zvtsc8svqfPvimh/s320/IMG_0629.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5586146427813287794" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwnEDQDgJvf79KYO4lbPoyFiQTGuMbedMKRxT6BRXROGmcP1vxueiGByWsOuK3PERHaZiTNgYiEJoNY5AIuZeEjeAXUONldaudcd8RpI9abgTCqRnG5My9LBma09EC0Qerv9Webq8RoF0d/s320/IMG_0630.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5586146723460455794" />My Aimless Infatuationhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07247232637557244904noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8228695683081125162.post-69655931007313021332011-03-17T14:57:00.006-05:002011-03-17T16:17:33.195-05:00It's a Goooojus Day Here!<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWPxPp-tX9miqX6MzmC2NnHXCN4kDdtb1R4zuoPcsXFzrlDJhDLXF9od5gCZbNvrlvZnIUSm9cuXhstGm7A3hCoFe1XUK4_lPsahvFpSVVpURGK12WlJe0xRF7HHtd4QadF4Lhl1se3qup/s320/IMG_0521.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5585160487411208194" />
What a beautiful day it has been here today,couldn't order weather more perfect than this,72 and sunshine. So far this has been a pretty good week considering,the car went in the shop again,it's fixed and didn't break the bank. The water company informed me that I had a small water leak that over doubled my bill. I stressed for days thinking,of course,that it was under the house which only a stringbean can get under because this old house is only about 6 inches off the ground. But luckily my Uncle stopped by yesterday,walked across the yard and said "you have a leak under this outside water faucet". I kept my fingers crossed that he was right. Sure'nuff,after he dug down 2 1/2 feet,there it was. Not many people would have gotten down in that mud to repair it for me without charging an arm and a leg. He refused to take any money for helping me,which made me feel bad. I may not have the most friends and family in the world but I do have some of the best. I got out this morning to pay bills and enjoy this "gooooojus" weather and of course I could not pass by the thrift stores without stopping. Yes I am a junkstore junkie, I love all things rustic. Took a picture of this old wooden chicken coop hanging on the wall being used as a shelf,love it. You can stop laughing now,I also liked the lamp on top made out of a meat grinder. What do ya think?
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhO_CHyIbSkWzFZRXLqYB9ZonN7PZqZ_1bhwP1KvhqYBlXv7Wwrk8AUTlXPOe0F_wCTu7mvwNOO7yxSoSLHvz95paNh_n98g3m9KLBtlzo5oAr1wML1TAK_E47lbsltQ9Cixae3UzPxXhzh/s320/IMG_0605.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5585156133175367218" />

I bought a few things,of course,2 sets of curtains and some birds I will paint to hang on the wall. Oh yeah,I forgot to tell you about nearly breaking my little toe the other night when I got up half asleep to turn the heat back on. I am very clumsy even when I'm wide awake,funny,I don't remember being that way when I was younger. I will spare you the picture of the black and blue foot.......your welcome.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOf_FZgxDskUE3z2UXj_697YPSsov8gR7brxHS9-GWU9n0vL_LZUNRdh-V_WYWUHpppLhCzLTmRv92xOMYnNoCIQfLD8qis7rtDauccprF6yCVtVikzAV1jt9QJxJOXbGNfBAamvRj46uz/s320/IMG_0609.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5585158127046476866" />

Tomorrow is back to the Doctor again(heart Dr.this time)he is a hundred miles away and I'm sure that will be a do over when he orders test for a later date. They know this ahead of time I don't know why it can't all be scheduled for the same day? I guess the price of gas hasn't gone so high in their world. So I will make the best of it,there are some great thrift stores in that city,lol. I need to slow down with that addiction or ya'll might see me some night on hoarders. Just kidding,I'm not that far gone,yet! I intended to post a bright cheerie tid-bit because I think we all need a little encouragement in this day and time........BUT,I made the mistake of reading the news. It's kind of hard to stay in an upbeat mood when so many are suffering. So most of the day my thoughts have been with the Earthquake and Tsunami victims. I understand that I was born in a different era than we live in now but what the heck? I don't even remember the last time something really GOOD happened.......All I know is, the whole day long this song kept playing over and over in my head. This is truly how I feel and have felt for a very long time. It's so sad that the original version of this song was made nearly 30 years ago and it's more truthful today than then. So I will leave you all with this song and hope all your news is good.~Dinah~

My Aimless Infatuationhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07247232637557244904noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8228695683081125162.post-80866925737105348162011-03-05T11:50:00.007-06:002011-03-05T14:13:31.245-06:00I Could Tell You........Yep,here I sit,wondering what to say that might be of any interest to anyone other than me! I could tell you how the last month has been nothing but Doctors visits and test which left me feeling no better than when I started. I could tell you how Spring is on us and the grass is growing and needs mowing and how we usually don't have much Springtime so the dreadful heat is on it's way. Which by the way (sorry but) Summertime and I are not the best of friends.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKoN8229aCb022LlE8TNELEWHNdoLsYRC2_L9KJ4pO2ur74er0U_LmmvLfotTRnqNShtPvwvR0Sq1yFoc5RgUv1aGQtCNTSkvg2dCWqpjTzWruJ_-FUmx8oVq544wiV6lccT9vxhBOvGaK/s320/IMG_0521.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5580682140258601106" />
I could tell you that the reason I tweaked my blog again was because of pop-ups. Hope you get a kick out of it,I sure did.~Dinah~

When you have to visit a public bathroom, you usually find a line of women, so you smile politely and take your place.
Once it's your turn, you check for feet under the stall doors. Every stall is occupied.
Finally, a door opens and you dash in, nearly knocking down the woman leaving the stall. You get in to find the door won't latch. It doesn't matter, the wait has been so long you are about to wet your pants!
The dispenser for the modern "seat covers" (invented by someone's Mom, no doubt) is handy, but empty. You would hang your purse on the door hook, if there was one,
but there isn't - so you carefully, but quickly drape it around
your neck, (Mom would turn over in her grave if you put it on the FLOOR!), yank down your pants, and assume " The
Stance."
In this position your aging, toneless (God I should have gone to the gym!!!) thigh muscles begin to shake. You'd love to sit down, but you certainly hadn't taken time to wipe the seat
or lay toilet paper on it, so you hold "The Stance".
To take your mind off your trembling thighs, you reach for what you discover to be the empty toilet paper dispenser. In
your mind, you can hear your mother's voice saying, "Honey, if you had tried to clean the seat, you would have KNOWN there was no toilet paper!" Your thighs shake more.
You remember the tiny tissue that you blew your nose on yesterday -the one that's still in your purse.(Oh yeah, the purse around your neck, that now, you have to hold up trying not to strangle yourself at the same time). That will have to do.
You crumple it in the puffiest way possible.. It's still smaller than your thumbnail.
Someone pushes your door open because the latch doesn't work. The door hits your purse, which is hanging around your neck in front of your chest, and you and your purse topple backward against the tank of the toilet.
"Occupied!" you scream, as you reach for the door, dropping your precious, tiny, crumpled tissue in a puddle on the
floor, lose your footing altogether, and slide down directly onto the TOILET SEAT. It is wet of course.
You bolt up, knowing all too well that it's too late. Your bare bottom has made contact with every imaginable germ and life form on the uncovered seat because YOU never laid down toilet paper - not that there was any, even if you had taken time to try.

You know that your mother would be utterly appalled if she knew, because, you're certain her bare bottom never touched a public toilet seat because, frankly, dear, "You just don't KNOW what kind of diseases you could get".
By this time, the automatic sensor on the back of the toilet is so confused that it flushes, propelling a stream of water like a fire hose against the inside of the bowl that sprays a fine mist of water that covers your butt and runs down your legs and into your shoes.
The flush somehow sucks everything down with such force that you grab onto the empty toilet paper dispenser for fear of being dragged in, too. At this point, you give up. You're soaked by the spewing water and the wet toilet seat. You're e-x-h-a-U-S-t-e-d.
You try to wipe with a gum wrapper you found in your pocket and then slink out inconspicuously to the sinks.
You can't figure out how to operate the faucets with the automatic sensors, ......so you wipe your hands with spit and a dry paper towel and walk past the line of women still waiting.
You are no longer able to smile politely to them.
A kind soul at the very end of the line points out a piece of toilet paper trailing from your shoe. (Where was that when you NEEDED it??) You yank the paper from your shoe, plunk it in
the woman's hand and tell her warmly, "Here, you just might need this".
As you exit, you spot your hubby, who has long since entered, used, and left the men's restroom. Annoyed, he asks,
"What took you so long, and why is your purse hanging around your neck?" .................
This is dedicated to women everywhere who deal with public restrooms (rest??? You've GOT to be kidding!!). It finally explains to the men what really does take us so long. It also answers their other commonly asked questions about why
women go to the restroom in pairs. It's so the other gal can hold the door, hang onto your purse, and hand you Kleenex under the door!My Aimless Infatuationhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07247232637557244904noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8228695683081125162.post-23732706437033075602011-03-01T09:59:00.004-06:002011-03-01T10:58:43.173-06:00Done Gone!!<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 292px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJ3V6zin7fdL-nfNO9QGX_v5_Nmc2eEVO15C_ANNGQr09_XiMKzgbrvIrcIjHUNcPMPtYEOuN3q2ASTTBBfcPEEYcbrkDej5L1bjoSIgT8O4nV18XkUt5RBahRlZcX4zQ9Ll2RoOCsfa3O/s400/A_Colorful_Cartoon_Woman_Staring_At_a_Blank_Computer_Screen_Royalty_Free_Clipart_Picture_100906-153473-920053.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5579156751782948882" />
Ok,I have a confession and need some advice. I have been posting photo's the hard way or should I say the stupid way. I still use the old editor, which as you know,will only let me place photo's at the top. So,I have been writing my post's in reverse (ok,are you all finished laughing?). It's not easy writing a photo story backwards. This is the reason alot of the post's that I would like to share never make it to my blog. I have read that changing to the updated editor would help me place my photo's within my post, but many bloggers have switched to the updated editor only to have major problems with it. Some say they have even lost content after the switch. So,before I try this(and mess everything up) I would like to know if any of you have advice for me on this? Which editor do you use? How do you place a photo within your post after writing it? Help,I'm going(done gone)crazy!!!~Dinah~My Aimless Infatuationhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07247232637557244904noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8228695683081125162.post-16102362931026997962011-01-25T14:13:00.007-06:002011-01-25T15:15:46.536-06:00I'm not going to blog about Holiday Weight Gain!<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxZ4l4Z-kOSz4PQLKeEW9T-xwQqjSFKhzt7YL7OjsyuQkO8mRSUPTWapU3hlShk2VeZedj2-YFaXHSkJnzWvpPwyDY1BbSSHIZkTrUkHr3QSFV2djsb1dAEGwUkObpFuNVkJs8pzZ0CKXS/s400/IMG_0308.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5566232757791979826" />

Wow,this month has flew by I can't believe it's almost Feburary already. I have really enjoyed this winter(unlike most of the country). See,I was born and raised in Michigan and back then we had snow from November until the thaw in the Spring. Like everyone else,I grew tired of it. In 1966 I moved to Alabama and married and have lived here ever since. In those 45 years that I've lived here,I never remember a white Christmas(to me,Christmas=snow) but we had one this year. My son's are 42 and 38 years old and this was their first white Christmas. Then the 10th of Jan. we got another beautiful snow. I know most of you must think I'm crazy but you wouldn't believe the memories that came flooding back just by walking thru the snow.(I know,I know....a little is good but a lot is not). They are predicting snow again tonight and everyone around here is complaining, but not me,Let it Snow!!!!.......See how these wimps around here can't take a little snow!......................~Dinah~

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 219px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxPtZSniYhAf6U7GSiv522oqfpnGMmKRr-71v3hvB4RavNGX4lzeo3BUGkCvjDvFmIczBNLvSjAqZJC1h19ld20il3MzefTYA2rmu7Q8LWQjGMEiEIHoxrHFu6WjDcdJyUlrYz6bwX7dfw/s400/ATT03332444%255B1%255D.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5566220931219111090" />My Aimless Infatuationhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07247232637557244904noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8228695683081125162.post-80641202959955401832011-01-03T14:40:00.002-06:002011-01-03T14:59:54.103-06:00Hello All!!It's time for me to tweak my blog again,hang in there,I will get it done sooner or later............in-between taking down all the Christmas decorations and packing them away AND a list of projects I want to do that is too long to list. The years with your children fly by much faster than you think........so if you are lucky enough to still have small one's at home I'm here to tell you.....enjoy every moment..........cause these are the best days of your life!!

A Mother's Night Before Christmas

'Twas was the night before Christmas, when all thru the abode,
only one creature was stirring, and she was cleaning the commode.
The children were finally sleeping, all snug in their beds,
while visions of Nintendo Wii and Barbie, flipped through their heads.

The dad was snoring in front of the TV,
with a half-constructed bicycle on his knee.
So only the mom heard the reindeer hooves clatter,
which made her sigh, "Now what's the matter?"

With toilet bowl brush still clutched in her hand,
she descended the stairs, and saw the old man.
He was covered with ashes and soot, which fell with a shrug.
"Oh great," muttered the mom, "Now I have to clean the rug."

"Ho-ho-ho!" cried Santa, "I'm glad you're awake."
"Your gift was especially difficult to make."
"Thanks, Santa, but all I want is some time alone."
"Exactly!" he chuckled, "I've made you a clone."

"A clone?" she asked, "What good is that?
Run along, Santa, I've no time for chit-chat."

The mother's twin. Same hair, same eyes,
same double chin. "She'll cook, she'll dust, "
she'll mop every mess. You'll relax, take it easy,
watch The Young & the Restless." "Fantastic!" the mom cheered.
"My dream come true! "I'll shop. I'll read., I'll sleep a whole night
through! "

From the room above, the youngest began to fret.
"Mommy?! You know how it is,sometimes we just let life get in the way of things we want to do. I could go on and on with the every day happenings since I last posted(as I'm sure you all could)but it seems I just can't seem to catch up and have enough time. I'm sure that time will come after the holidays when everything seems to come to a stand still until Spring. I have missed posting because it is therapy for me but even more I've missed visiting all your blogs. I hope all your Holidays are just as you want them to be and Love and Happiness surrounds you always. So until the next time I thought I'd leave you with a little of my world at this time of year. Just Christmas in the country.~Dinah~

<img style="float:right; Is it the violinist or the passers by?
Picture, if you will, the scene: Washington DC Metro Station one cold January morning a short while ago. This man is busking - playing his violin; he plays for about 45 minutes and completes six pieces by Bach.

Now, ask Will and Guy - does anyone take any notice? During that time approximately 2,000 people pass through the station, most of them on their way to work.

After 3 minutes a middle aged man notices there was a musician playing. He slows his pace and stops for a few seconds and then hurries to meet his schedule.

4 minutes later: The violinist receives his first dollar. A woman throws the money in the till and, without stopping, continues to walk.

6 minutes after that: A young man leans against the wall to listen to him, then looks at his watch and starts to walk again.

10 minutes later: A 3 year old boy stops but his mother tugs him along hurriedly, as the youngster stops to look at the violinist. Finally the mother pushes hard and the child continues to walk, turning his head all the time. This action is repeated by several other children. Every parent, without exception, forces them to move on.

45 minutes later: The musician plays on. Only 6 people have stopped and stayed for a while. About 20 have given him money but continued to walk at their normal pace.

He collected $32.00

1 hour later: He finishes playing and silence takes over. No one notices. No one applauds, nor is there any recognition.

Now - who was the violinist?

No one knew this, but the violinist was *Joshua Bell, one of the best musicians in the world. He played one of the most intricate pieces ever written, with a Stradivarius violin worth $3.5 million dollars. Two days before Joshua Bell sold out a theatre in Boston where the seats averaged $100.00

This is a real story. Joshua Bell playing incognito in the metro station was organized by the Washington Post as part of a social experiment about perception, taste and people's priorities. The questions raised: in a common place environment at an inappropriate hour, do we perceive beauty? Do we stop to appreciate it? Do we recognize talent in an unexpected context?

One possible conclusion reached from this experiment could be: If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world playing some of the finest music ever written, with one of the most beautiful instruments .................How many other things are we missing? ~Dinah~My Aimless Infatuationhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07247232637557244904noreply@blogger.com13tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8228695683081125162.post-70569682829391485672010-10-08T09:08:00.003-05:002010-10-08T09:12:31.993-05:00Blogger Gone Crazy!!Is anyone else having problems with their dashboard?
