Much too Often.........
I end up back on memory lane,I suppose you all wish I would stay off of it for awhile. Maybe it's just one of the hazards of getting older but just for one day don't you wish we could go back to a time when..............................Decisions were made by going "eeny-meeny-miney-mo."
Mistakes were corrected by simply exclaiming, "do over!"
"Race issue" meant arguing about who ran the fastest.
Money issues were handled by whoever was the banker in "Monopoly."
Catching the fireflies could happily occupy an entire evening.
It wasn't odd to have two or three "best friends."
Being old referred to anyone over 20.
The net on a tennis court was the perfect height to play volleyball
and rules didn't matter.
The worst thing you could catch from the opposite sex was cooties.
It was magic when dad would "remove" his thumb.
It was unbelievable that dodgeball wasn't an Olympic event
Having a weapon in school meant being caught with a slingshot.
Nobody was prettier than Mom.
Scrapes and bruises were kissed and made better.
It was a big deal to finally be tall enough to ride the "big people"
rides at the amusement park.
Getting a foot of snow was a dream come true.
Abilities were discovered because of a "double-dog-dare."
Saturday morning cartoons weren't 30-minute ads for action figures.
No shopping trip was complete unless a new toy was brought home.
"Oly-oly-oxen-free" made perfect sense.
Spinning around, getting dizzy and falling down was cause for giggles.
The worst embarrassment was being picked last for a team.
War was a card game.
Water balloons were the ultimate weapon.
Baseball cards in the spokes transformed any bike into a motorcycle.
Taking drugs meant orange-flavored chewable aspirin.
Ice cream was considered a basic food group.
Older siblings were the worst tormentors, but also the fiercest
protectors.

I also enjoy walking down memory lane, and I think it is all about age - I don't remember doing it when I was in my 30s or 40s. I remember everything on your list, and those definitely were better days - or at least the worst of those days wasn't spread in a nanoo second on the internet! Today's kids are using a squashed coke can to put on their bike tires!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the memories ...
OMG! As I was reading I was thinking - yep. yep, yep. I remember all of those things too. Thanks for reminding me of such a great time in my life. >^..^<
ReplyDeleteSometimes I think - no I know our children missed out on a lot. My son is 29 and was just on the cusp of not knowing any of this but he was still able to take off on his bike all day to explore.
ReplyDeleteI also remember those days, especially the "Taking Drugs was chewing orange or cherry flavoured aspirin." Things were so much better then. I say we all go back to that, a more simple life, with no electronics, and electricity. But sadly, that will never happen. Good Post!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, flower, if the economy continues to go into the tank, we WILL be without electronics and electricity. Us "good ol' country boys" will still be able to hack it though. At least we know how to hunt, fish, garden, etc....
ReplyDelete"Twas the time". A lot of my postings are about "yesteryear". And yep, I am old.. lol
ReplyDeleteLove the post and yeah I remember a LOT of that time.........and so many times wish I could go back to those times........btw I LOVED those orange aspirins lol......thanks for the memories.
ReplyDeletejust testing!
