Saturday Night brought an F3 Tornado through my small town. For nearly 19 miles of devastation(it was 3/4 of a mile wide).... It looks like a war zone. My family and I were among the lucky one's that had no damage at all,but seeing what other's have lost breaks my heart. There is/was a lot of beautiful woods in my area. This storm has changed that skyline forever. Of the ones lucky enough to have kept their homes, many are still without power. The clean up will take many month's but still you can not replace the history of the age old buildings and the beauty of 150 year old trees. But,here is the amazing part. No one was killed in this storm. To me that is a miracle and much to be thankful for. Here is just a little sample of what could be seen at day break last Sunday morning.
Oh My, It is so good to hear you are safe but It is scary to know it got so close. It is a miracle no one was killed. My thoughts are with you and your community.
We were on the tail end of that same system, but the few tornadoes that were spotted in Tennessee were F1s. About two years ago, though, one of my best friends lost her granddaughter and son-in-law when their house was demolished by an F3 in Macon County, Tennessee. 13 people in that county alone were killed. One lady ran into a church for protection and the entire church collapsed, killing her.
I am so sorry that the damage was so severe, but I am happy you and your family are safe. We never know from one day to the next what will happen......:-) Hugs
Ohh Dinah - I am so glad you are safe but I so understand your emotion at the damage that surrounds you. I can't even see it in person and it breaks my heart.
Living in tornado alley I have seen too much devastation to be shocked but still it is unbelievable what these twisters can do. It is a wonderful circumstance that you are okay.

ReplyDeleteI have never witnessed destruction of that degree. I'm happy that you and your family were spared, but pray that others will get through it.
